"bright, catchy indie-pop" NEW YORK TIMES

"clever, intelligent songwriting" PASTE MAGAZINE

I love writing music and lyrics! My songs have been reviewed in the New York TimesBillboardPaste MagazinePerforming Songwriter, and many regional and local publications. Read these articles at my Press Page. Radio stations across North America and Europe play my songs, and my music has been featured on television on CBS This Morning, the BBC, Iowa Public Television, Huomenta Suomi (Good Morning Finland), and the Ellen Degeneres Show.

My songs have been covered by other artists, including acoustic duo The River's Voice, power-pop vocalist Beki Hemingway, Tennessee folk artist Greg Adkins, Gospel pioneer Ken Medema, and Australian liturgist Robin Mann. In 2006 I composed a set of liturgical pieces entitled A Heartland Liturgy which is sung by dozens of churches across the country each week.

Although I've primarily written pop/rock songs, I've also explored other forms of composition including four-part choral music, Gospel, and fiddle tunes. Recently I was invited to play my Nordic-folk-inspired instrumental tune "Norman Borlaug Polka" at the Iowa State Capitol, and broadcast live on Iowa Public Television.

My goal is to collaborate even more with other professional songwriters. If you'd be interested in co-writing, please contact me

Here's a SoundCloud demo reel of some of my compositions and co-writes:

I also enjoy contributing articles and opinion pieces to various publications. Check out some of my writings online:

I'm also a contributing author for the bestselling comedy/theology manual The Lutheran Handbook.
