I love life on the road! For over a decade I spent 150 days per year on tour playing solo acoustic shows. From 2010 to 2013 I toured coast-to-coast performing at theaters, auditoriums, and festivals with the instrumental Nordic-folk duo Kaivama. Now in 2015, I'm back on the road in singer-songwriter mode, supporting my new solo album LOOK UP.
I love playing with other artists, too...if you need an auxiliary musician for your upcoming tour, I might be the ideal hired-gun for the job.
Occasionally I get the opportunity as a guest instrumentalist to do a large tour with another artist. I've done this in very diverse situations with a variety of performers, including power-pop vocalist Beki Hemingway, Boston folk favorite Jake Armerding, Christian arena-rockers Echelon, world-renowned Finnish fiddler Arto Järvelä, and indie rock legend Walter Salas-Humara of The Silos.
CHECK OUT THIS "SIDEMAN REEL" PLAYLIST ON YOUTUBE to watch and listen to some of my adventures on tour as a hired-gun musician.
I've had the pleasure of opening for some amazing artists including Aimee Mann, the BoDeans, Switchfoot, and Frigg, as well as many other acoustic performers such as Pierce Pettis, Stacey Earle, Pokey LaFarge, and Half-Handed Cloud.
Here's my "Sideman Reel" playlist on YouTube, where you can check out some of my adventures as a touring multi-instrumentalist.
I've also shared the stage with a wide variety of artists including legendary folk songwriter John Gorka, Americana troubadour Tom Freund, British punk godfather Jon Langford, American Idol finalist Brandon Rogers, bluegrass phenom Chris Luquette, and acoustic duo Red Tail Ring.
I've performed in arenas like the Superdome (New Orleans) and the Edward Jones Dome (St. Louis); festivals like South By Southwest (Austin), Cornerstone (Illinois), Great Lakes Folk Festival (East Lansing), and Kirchentag (Germany); arts centers like Salmagundi Center for American Art (New York City) and the Walker Art Center (Minneapolis); and music venues like Old Town School of Folk Music (Chicago), Red Eyed Fly (Austin), Hotel Utah (San Francisco), CSPS (Cedar Rapids), Club Passim (Boston), Mondo (Stockholm, Sweden), Mendocino (Helsinki, Finland), Säätämö (Turku, Finland), Paviljonki (Jyväskylä, Finland), and dozens of colleges and universities.
If you're a professional musician planning a regional or national tour, and you're in need of a keyboardist, guitarist, auxiliary multi-instrumentalist, or harmony vocalist, I may be just the person you need.

"the multi-talented Jonathan adds guitar, banjo, mandolin, harmonium, organ and piano. Polished yet rustic, subdued but powerful this truly is roots music with the ability to transport the listener to another continent and another time. “
